[sid] Gnome 2.8 to 2.10 migration

當 Sarge 正式推出，有不少被卡在 experimental 的套件陸逐進入 sid 了，當中包括了 Gnome 2.10 。不過這個 migration 並不十分 smooth 。Gnome 2.10 的核心程式會令 2.8 的 panel 跑不了，如果你因 upgrade 而不見了 panel ，可能要 snapshot.debian.org
downgrade 或到 experimental 抓 2.10 的 gnome-panel 及有關 package。

gnome-panel/experimental 與 kdelibs-data 發生衝突

experimental 的 gnome-panel 暫時與 kdelibs-data 發生衝突。

Unpacking gnome-menus (from .../gnome-menus_2.10.1-1_i386.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/gnome-menus_2.10.1-1_i386.deb (--unpack):
 trying to overwrite `/etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu', which is also in package kdelibs-data
Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/gnome-menus_2.10.1-1_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

現時最好的方法似乎還是 downgrade 到 sarge 的 GNOME.

apt-get install libgnomevfs2-common/stable libgnomevfs2-0/stable \
 gnome-panel/stable gnome-panel-data/stable libpanel-applet2-0/stable

overwrite it

I usually just add --force-overwrite to overwrite the duplicate files.

dpkg --force-overwrite -i /var/cache/apt/archives/*.deb

Of course, if you are scare, downgrade to sarge. But I always think sid people should brave enough to handle such a small problem ;p

Problem solved and gnome-panel 2.10 is in sid now.

The maintainers seem to get a 'solution' for the conflict
here.
