I have a router(linksys wireless-G) serves as gateway for my internet connection. 2 PC are connected to the router, 1 win XP, and 1 debian sarge. Another NAS (synology DS-101g+)is also attached to the router, which is run as ftp server and web server. I try to sey-up my debian to be a mail server, but failed to telnet the stmp even within my debian machine. Wondering if my debian should avoid running behind the router in order to be a mail server ?
I have been working on this maater for quite sometime and still could not get it work. Thinking of paying a debain technician to help me. Any advice ?

Can mail server run behind a router ?
Yes.
However if you cannot telnet to port 25 locally then you should forget the router for now and fix the problems on your debian box first. How did you configure your firewall? Which MTA are you using? Can you post a 'nmap localhost' result here?
